Dooring accidents: "As a cyclist, you hardly have a chance"
The death of actress Wanda Perdelwitz has shocked Hamburg. The 41-year-old, known from the TV series "Großstadtrevier," died on October 6th as a result of a serious bicycle accident that occurred on September 28th near Dammtor train station. A car stopped on the side of the road Perdelwitz was riding on, the passenger opened the door, and Perdelwitz collided with full force. A so-called "dooring accident": This is the term used to describe collisions in which cyclists crash into suddenly opened car doors. Such accidents are preventable: The German Insurance Accident Research (UDV) has been warning for years that the danger is underestimated.
